We recognize the efforts of people in this country to bring awareness to and challenge racial injustices. We acknowledge the pain, sorrow, and anger of our Black students, faculty, and staff as we all bear witness to yet another illustration of how white supremacy denies humanity and steals Black lives. We recognize that racism, whiteness, and anti-Black perspectives are not external to our campuses, but are ingrained in our institutional histories, policies, and practices. We recommit ourselves, as stewards of this work, to amplify conversations that elevate critical consciousness around anti-Black racism. We believe knowledge and reflection must be combined with clear and undeniable actions that move institutions of higher education along the path toward racial justice.
